Student Assessment
General Information

Do you want to receive college credit without college course work? If you already have proficient knowledge of a subject, you can prove competency through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) sponsored by the College Board. Whether you have mastered this material through prior course work, independent study or cultural pursuits, you may want to consider CLEP examinations.

With sufficient scores, you can receive credit for certain courses identified by the college/university of your choice according to the CLEP policy of that institution. Many students who successfully complete CLEP exams, find that they can enrich their degree programs with higher-level courses in the same discipline, expand their horizons by taking a wider array of electives and avoid the need to repeat material they already know. It is also possible to shorten the path to a degree. If you have questions about which tests may be taken and how credits are applied, please contact your advisor at Midlands Technical College or the college/university of your choice.

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of tests developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and offered at test centers throughout the country. Five general examinations and thirty subject examinations are available through CLEP. Each examination is 90 minutes long.

CLEP examinations are available in the CLEP CBT Test Center at the Airport Campus Student Assessment Center of Midlands Technical College. This site is a computerized CLEP test center and can only offer examinations on the computer. CLEP examinations can be taken on a walk-in basis once students have registered. Cellular telephones, watches with alarms, pagers and other handheld computing devices are not permitted in the test room. Non-programmable calculators, slide rules, and other such materials may be allowed if permitted by the CLEP test publisher.

Students with Disabilities: If you have a disability, please contact the Disabilities Resource Center (link to DRC here) before you register regarding testing under special conditions, e.g., extended testing time (up to three hours per test), use of a reader or transcriber, or use of large-print testing materials. Only students with documentation of a learning or physical disability are eligible for special CLEP arrangements.
