Former Midlands student: Pedro de Abreu
The USC Times recently printed the following article on former MTC student, Pedro de Abreu and his non-profit organization, The Check Mate Foundation, which teaches children to play chess to teach them critical thinking skills, positive interpersonal relations and self confidence. While at MTC, Pedro was a member of the MTC All South Carolina Academic Team for the SC Technical College System, and he also was the 2011 New Century Scholar for SC. Pedro transferred to the University of South Carolina - Columbia in Fall 2011. Read more
