Do Not Believe the Hype

One of my concerns was what type on instructors I would have to deal with in college. I heard horror stories about particular teachers, but I’m here to share some wisdom: DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE! Establish your own relationship with your instructor. The first thing I learned is that they truly want to treat you as an adult. If you respect yourself, they will respect you. I am not telling you something I heard. I am telling you this from experience.

Let me share this. I had an instructor who was known around campus to be a tough nose. I have to admit that hearing that from more than one person kind of worried me. But I know who is in charge. I went to class the first day and that tough-nose person did not waste time being hard on the first day. I got an F on my second quiz. My heart was devastated because I knew my answers were right. I asked the instructor about it, who said instead of picking one question to answer, I answered both. I was HOT! So I got myself to together and thought, “I have be on top of my game!!!”

After that I got nothing but As in the class. For the final grade I also got an A!!!! When people asked me about my grade they could not believe it. Even my advisor was amazed! They said this instructor never gives As. I told them he didn't give it, I earned it!

So, what I am conveying to you is this: Get to learn your instructors for yourself. Ask all the questions you can. Respect them no matter how they may come off, and most importantly stay on TOP OF YOUR GAME AND PUT THE WORK IN TO YOUR STUDIES! I had that professor my very first semester at MTC. Now he always says he remembers me and if I need any kind of recommendation for anything, please let him know. Now that is what is called RESPECT!
