How to pay for college

I’m the first person in my family to ever pursue a college degree. I had no one to turn to for guidance and I had no money. Somehow I never really believed I could get financial assistance. I know now that, at the time, I could have gone to school for free.

So, confused and directionless, I left home. I moved to South Carolina and lived with my sister while I tried to figure out what I wanted for myself. While I was doing this life happened to me.

I talked to my boss and made the decision to cut some hours so that I could attend classes. Now I had to find a way to pay for school despite the fact that I had just cut my hours. My husband makes too much money for me to get financial aid and I don’t qualify for a LIFE scholarship since I didn’t graduate here. The answer: Lottery Tuition Assistance. It pays for roughly half of my education costs. It gave me the break I needed to scrimp and save for the rest. I don’t condone gambling but I must say I can’t complain.
