Hello! My name is Latoya, and I'm a freshman at Midlands Technical College for Fall 2009. I graduated from Spring Valley High School in 2009 and my major is Associate in Science; however, when I transfer to a four-year college, my major will be Chemical Engineering. At first, MTC was not an option for me at all. I wanted to go to an out of state, four-year school, but that's a lot of money. However, I didn't have a declared major, plus I didn't have high enough grades in high school to get into any of the schools I had in mind. I joked about it, but I said if I had applied to the schools I wanted to go to, they would have sent me a letter back saying, "Are you serious? You are out of your natural-born mind thinking you're getting into this school with those grades!" But it was true though, my grades, to me, were horrible! I knew MTC was a good school because my mom and a couple of my friends go to there and my friends that transferred to four-year schools after two years at MTC are doing a lot better than the people who went straight off to a four-year school, money wise and in the classroom. Keep in mind, it’s still college. Just not USC or Clemson, but it really is the same thing. Right after my 18th birthday, I decided to go to MTC to get my GPA up and transfer to a university. When I transfer in fall 2011, my major will be Chemical Engineering. I'm not sure what school I’ll attend yet, but I know it will be out of state. I've always done well in math and science, so I know this will be a fun and exciting field for me.
