Welcome to the Math 242 course website. The syllabi for each course contains comprehensive information about this course. The course syllabi can be found here. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about your grades.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

MW 10:30am - MAT242B01 Class Final Exam: Monday, August 3, 10:30 a.m.-12:30pm

TTH 5:30pm - MAT242B61 Class Final Exam: Tuesday, August 4, 5:30-7:30pm

A few of you have asked for the pdf document for the last test to study for the final. You can find a copy here: [PDF]

MIT Diff. Eq. Lectures - Video Lectures of MIT's Differential Equation class.

Differential Equation Notes - A really good website discussing most of our Differential Equation topics this semester

Bucks County Community College - A link to a webpage for a Diff. Eq. class that uses the same textbook as us. It has worked out homework problem solutions.

Here is a link to a java applet (dfields) created by a professor at Rice that you may enjoy. Just type in a D.E. and it will graph the slope field for you. Click on the graph at a particular point, and it will draw the solution curve for that point.

Here is a Java applet that will use Euler's Method to provide an approximation to the solution of a first-order D.E. Just type in a first order D.E. and the desired step size, and it will output (x,y) points approximating the solution.

** Additional 3.7 - Taylor Methods notes. Here are some additional notes on Taylor Methods and here is a [PDF] of the class example we did together. Notice the improvement in accuracy over Euler's Method. Also, try comparing the accuracy achieved by Taylor Methods with the approximation found using the Improved Euler's Method (this is not on the pdf).

The following links are great places to read up on Laplace Transforms

  • Formal Laplace Notes
  • Informal Powerpoint Presentation
  • Online Laplace Transform Calculator - Great tool! (Don't get too reliant on it though)
  • Another good explanation

The next test will be on Sections 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, and 9.1-9.5. Skip sections 8.6 and 9.6 which is on the course outline. Please fill out the course evaluation below!

***Here is the MTC course evaluation for your MAT242 class this semester. I would appreciate it if you could take a second to complete the evaluation.***
