Course Description: This course covers introductory topics and techniques with the Internet and Internet communications. Techniques on how to use and access various types of information as well as how to find resources and navigate the Internet are included.

Course Objective: This course seeks to provide the student with an extensive knowledge of the Internet in order that students may pursue academic research through the Internet, accessing both the areas of Libraries, Governmental Information and Data, as well as converse in areas of their specific academic interests. It will also provide the students with the ability to set up their computers in order that they can access the Internet, and where to find various Internet software that they can then install. The course will direct the student to find their own interests on the Internet with which they can complete assignments for the instructor.

Requirements: A number of homework assignments and projects will be given. These must be handed in on or before the due date in order to receive full credit, and must be prepared according to the standards presented in class. There will be a minimum of 2 tests. Pop quizzes may be given at any time.

Attendance Requirements: Students may not miss more than three (3) classes, regardless of the reason for the absence. After exceeding this limit, the student will be withdrawn from the class by the instructor. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the class period. Students not answering to the roll call at that time will be marked absent. Students arriving late must check-in with the instructor after class in order to be marked tardy. Three marks of tardy will count as one absence. Students are required to remain in class until class is dismissed, and will otherwise be marked absent, unless prior arrangements are made in advance with the instructor. Attendance records will not be changed retroactively after the scheduled class meeting.

Tests and Quizzes: Students are required to take all tests as scheduled, including the final exam. Be certain to check the final exam schedule published in the official college class schedule. In instances where severe hardships arise, reasonable accommodations may be made if the student provides adequate supporting documentation. Quizzes may be given at any time. No make-up quizzes will be given under any circumstances.

Assignments and Homework: Projects and other homework must be submitted on the date due in order to receive full credit. After the due date, late work may be submitted only at the very next class meeting time at a penalty of 10 (ten) percentage points. After this one-class grace period, no late homework will be accepted. Assignments must be submitted at the start of the scheduled class period in order to be considered on-time. Some lab assignments will be given for completion during class time. These will be counted towards the students "class participation."

Academic Integrity: The instructor will enforce the "Student Code" as documented in The Midlands Technical College "Student Handbook." Students are to prepare homework assignments on their own, and not treat them as group projects unless otherwise specified. The instructor will refer all matters relating to academic dishonesty to the Director of Campus Life. There are no student "lab assistants" for this course. Each student should work on his or her own work. Students needing help should contact the instructor.
