What is Life Experience Credit?
Life Experience Credit (LEC) is college credit granted to
students who have work experience that can be equated to course content. LEC
is exemption credit and cannot be transferred to other colleges or
schools. Students are awarded a grade
of “E” (for exemption) and three academic credit hours for each course.
Which Office Systems Technology courses can be exempted
through LEC?
The Office Systems Technology Department awards LEC in the
following courses:

Document Formatting
- OST 161
Information Management
- OST 165
Information Processing Software
- OST 265
Microcomputer Desktop Publishing
- CPT 172
Microcomputer Database
- CPT 174
Microcomputer Spreadsheets
- CPT 179 Microcomputer
Word Processing
Who Can Apply for LEC?
Any student enrolled at Midlands Technical College may
apply for LEC for any of the above listed courses. You must meet all course prerequisites for the class you are
applying for LEC, and you cannot be enrolled in the class.
How Do I Apply for LEC?
You must submit an
Application
for Life Experience Credit and attach a separate portfolio for each
course. The portfolio requirements
differ from course to course; however, all portfolios require documentation
of at least two years’ work experience, a current resume, and a short

LEC portfolios will be accepted only once, must be
error-free, and will become the property of Midlands Technical College. After submitting the application and
portfolio, you may be asked to demonstrate specific skills referred to in
your portfolio.
What is the cost for LEC?
There is no charge for exemption credit.
