COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces legal terminology and covers the production of documents found in the legal office environment. Emphasis is on productivity and excellence in legal document production.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course the student will:
1. Correctly spell, pronounce, and define the legal terms presented.
2. Correctly format and produce general legal documents including letters, memorandums, and legal research reports.
3. Correctly format and produce non-court documents including real estate contracts, corporate contracts, wills, affidavits, and other agreements.
4. Correctly format and produce civil and probate court documents including motions, notices, notices of motions, orders, and stipulations.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: The department policy will apply. The number of absences allowed is equal to twice the number of times the course meets per week.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments are to be turned in on or before the announced due date. Late work will be accepted at the discretion of the instructor.
Ten points will be deducted from grade on work turned in late. Makeup tests will be given at the discretion of the instructor.
