Information Systems Technology Syllabus
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will provide a comprehensive foundation in both SQL and Relational Database design and implementation. A current commercially available database product will be used for class projects. Dynamic and embedded SQL Programming techniques will be emphasized. STUDENT COMPETENCIES: Upon successful completion of this course the student should be competent to perform the following tasks: 1. Communicate an understanding of Data Modeling and Database Design 2. Construct valid SQL Queries 3. Select Rows 4. Limit Selected Rows 5. Understand and use Single Row Functions 6. Display Data from Multiple Tables 7. Use Group Functions 8. Use Subqueries 9. Specify Variables at Runtime 10.Communicate an understanding of the Oracle Data Dictionary 11.Create Tables 12.Manipulate Rows 13.Alter Tables and Constraints 14.Create Sequences 15.Create Views 16.Create Indexes 17.Control User Access 18.Communicate an understanding of PL/SQL 19.Develop a simple PL/SQL Block 20.Interact with Oracle 21.Control Flow in PL/SQL Blocks 22.Process Queries by Using Explicit Cursors 23.Use Error Handling
Evaluation Methods Weight Lab assignments 40% each 4 Tests 10% each Final Exam 20% GRADING SCALE:
All projects must be turned in on or before the due date for that program or project. No projects will be accepted after the due dates. No incomplete grades will be given. Any deviation from this policy must be authorized by the Department Head. All forms of academic dishonesty, including but not limited to cheating on tests, plagiarism, collusion, and falsification of information, will call for discipline. Academic integrity questions should be resolved by consulting the Student Code as documented in the Midlands Technical College Student Handbook. All issues of academic dishonesty will be referred to the director of Campus Life.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: It is essential that you attend class in order to receive a passing grade. If you must miss class then please let the instructor know in advance, if possible. If you miss more than 4 classes for a class that meets 2 times a week, or 6 classes for a class that meets 3 times a week, then the instructor may withdraw you from the class.
