COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course addresses skills to use WYSWYG software popular with the web industry to develop web sites. The course is intensively lab and project based. Students will work on projects both in and outside of class. Completion of the projects is absolutely critical in order to pass this course.

STUDENT COMPETENCIES:  Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be competent to perform the following tasks:

Use WYSWYG Web authoring software (Dreamweaver) to

  • Design pages that are well structured in html.
  • Define a web site.
  • Create and use cascading style sheets.
  • Create forms.
  • Use tables for layout and to present tabular information.
  • Use framesets.
  • Use and animate layers.
  • Use behaviors, JavaScripts and other interactive technologies into web sites.
  • Incorporate and manage multimedia elements (sound, movies and graphics) into sites.
  • Use libraries, symbols and templates to structure sites.
  • Test a site with a server.
  • Link a web site to a database.

 

Grades will be based on the course projects, test results and participation as measured by regular and timely attendance and timely completion of assignments and projects.

All projects must be turned in on or before the due date for that program or project. No projects will be accepted after the due dates.

No incomplete grades will be given. Everyone must take the final exam.

Any deviation from this policy must be authorized by the Department Head.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:  Academic integrity questions should be resolved by consulting the Student Code as documented in the Midlands Technical College Student Handbook. All issues of academic dishonesty will be referred to the director of Campus Life.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:  For classes that meet twice a week, students who miss more than three (3) classes FOR ANY REASON may be dropped from the class. 
In the case of classes that meet once per week and are administered partly online, students are expected to comment in the online discussion group at least once per week. Students who miss more than two (2) classes FOR ANY REASON may be dropped from the class.
Students who are knowledgeable about a unit of the class may have an opportunity to take a test to demonstrate their capabilities at the discretion of the instructor. Students who successfully test out of a unit of the course will NOT be responsible for the homework associated with that unit. Students who pass all unit tests must nevertheless continue to attend classes on a regular basis until they have completed ALL project and test requirements for the class. Students who have turned in all projects and successfully tested out of all units of the course will be given a grade and will not be required to attend more classes in the course.

The College may be closed because of inclement weather. This news should be available on the website at www.midlandstech.edu at the main phone number at 738-1400, and announced on WIS-TV and radio. Please check frequently in changeable weather for closings and re-openings. If the College closing or reopening means that you will have at least 30 minutes of a class, you should come to class. Please do not call the IST Department office or the President’s office with closure questions.
