COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a study of server side and client side dynamic web design, including the incorporation of database applications and content into web pages.

STUDENT COMPETENCIES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be competent to perform the following tasks:

  1. Identify the objectives of effective Web site design.
  2. Design well structured sites.
  3. Identify accessibility issues.
  4. Design accessible Web pages and sites.
  5. Use Web design conventions.
  6. Design effective navigation strategies.
  7. Conduct usability tests.

Achievement of these competencies will be measured by a combination of graded projects, term papers, performance on tests and on a final examination.

All projects must be turned in on or before the due date for that program or project. No projects will be accepted after the due dates.

No incomplete grades will be given. Everyone must take the final exam.

Any deviation from this policy must be authorized by the Department Head.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:  Academic integrity questions should be resolved by consulting the Student Code as documented in the Midlands Technical College Student Handbook. All issues of academic dishonesty will be referred to the director of Campus Life.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:  For classes that meet twice a week, students who miss more than three (3) classes FOR ANY REASON may be dropped from the class. 
In the case of classes that meet once per week and are administered partly online, students are expected to comment in the online discussion group at least once per week. Students who miss more than two (2) classes FOR ANY REASON may be dropped from the class.
Students who are knowledgeable about a unit of the class may have an opportunity to take a test to demonstrate their capabilities at the discretion of the instructor. Students who successfully test out of a unit of the course will NOT be responsible for the homework associated with that unit. Students who pass all unit tests must nevertheless continue to attend classes on a regular basis until they have completed ALL project and test requirements for the class. Students who have turned in all projects and successfully tested out of all units of the course will be given a grade and will not be required to attend more classes in the course.
