SOFTWARE:  Access 2007 must be installed.  This book assumes a complete installation.

 

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course emphasizes accessing databases using advanced concepts in microcomputer database application software. Techniques include SQL, application generators and database programming to generate various applications.

STUDENT COMPETENCIES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to utilize the advanced features of a microcomputer database.

Achievement of these competencies will be measured by a combination of projects and performance on tests.

Semester Project: *** DUE NO LATER THAN THE LAST CLASS MEETING OF THE SEMESTER.

 

The student’s final grade will be determined by the total points earned divided by the total possible points; i.e., 376 points earned out of 400 = 376/400 = 94% = A, 348 points earned out of 400 = 348/400 = 87% = B, etc.

*** Note: The instructor will NOT drop the lowest test or project score when computing the final grade for the course.

Per departmental policy, a grade of D cannot be awarded for this course.

PROJECTS AND ASSIGNMENTS:  Tutorials and exercises are assigned to provide practice in learned skills and in applying those skills to various situations.  They will not be graded.  However, they must be completed and turned in by the indicated date.  A penalty may be assessed for late assignments:

 

Lesson Exercises:  1 point penalty for each class session late.

Unit Applications: 1 point penalty for each class session late.

      (Points will be subtracted from total semester points earned.)

All projects must be turned in on or before the due date for that program or project. No projects will be accepted after the due dates.

No incomplete grades will be given. Everyone must take the final exam.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:  It is essential that you attend class in order to receive a passing grade. If you must miss class then please let the instructor know in advance, if possible. If you miss more than 4 classes for a class that meets 2 times a week, or 6 classes for a class that meets 3 times a week, then the instructor may withdraw you from the class.
