ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE TECHNOLOGY

Effective Fall 2007 this program name has been changed from Office Systems Technology.

DESCRIPTION:
A program designed to provide students with the skills necessary to achieve top-level information processing\administrative assistant positions. In addition to offering basic office skills courses, the curriculum also includes the use of the microcomputer and in-depth training on today's latest software packages.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Basic keyboarding is still a skill necessary for successful completion in the AOT program, AOT 105-Keyboarding is a prerequisite course for most AOT courses. Students must take the keyboarding proficiency test.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 69 credit hours is required for graduation.
  • Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in all of the courses offered within the Business and Information Systems Technology departments for the grade to count toward graduation. This includes courses with the following prefixes: ACC, BAF, BUS, CPT, CRP, IST, LEG, MGT, MKT and AOT or OST.
  • Students must meet all exit program competencies for graduation from this program.

 

PROGRAM ACCREDITATION:
Midlands Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. This program chose not to request reaffirmation by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs for Office Systems Technology.

 

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. CPT 170 should be taken as early in sequence of courses as possible.
  2. Courses may be taken during any semester provided all prerequisites have been met. However all AOT courses are not offered each semester. See a departmental advisor for a list of planned semester course offerings.
  3. The Departmant Elective must be a 3 credit course taken within the Information Systems Department (IST). Information Systems course prefixes include AOT, IST, and CPT. CPT 101-Introduction to Computers and AOT 105-Keyboarding cannot be used as departmental electives.
  4. General Elective may be any MTC 3 credit hour course above the "100 Level" as long as is does not have an AOT prefix.
  5. You must be able to keyboard 50 WPM for FIVE minutes with no more than five errors in AOT 210 Document Production.
