Who May Receive Funds
How to Apply
Federal Pell Grant

(PELL)
Provides financial assistance to undergraduates with financial need who have not received a bachelor’s or professional degree. Information reported in the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is evaluated by the U. S. Department of Education to produce an Expected Family Contribution (EFC). A student must complete a new FAFSA for each academic year enrolled. All current and prospective undergraduate students who meet financial eligibility, academic progress requirements and are enrolled in an eligible academic program. Less than half-time students may qualify. Applicants must satisfy criteria regarding selective service, criminal record and loan defaults.

  2. Mail completed application to the U. S. Department of Education or apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  3. Apply to the college and be admitted to an approved program of study.
Federal Supplemental Education
Opportunity Grants 
(FSEOG)
Provides grants for undergraduates with the lowest Expected Family Contributions and gives priority to students receiving PELL Awards. Awards depend on availability of funds. Same as above Same as above
Federal Work Study 

(FWS)
Provides part-time jobs to financially eligible undergraduates. Students may work 15 -20 hours a week. Employment is determined by academic progress, class schedule, and total award. Awards depend on availability of funds. Jobs may be on-campus or off-campus. Eligible students who are enrolled at least half time. Same as above
South Carolina State Need-Based
Grant 
(SNBG)
Provides additional financial aid to South Carolina residents with a documented need. South Carolina residents who are enrolled at least half time in an eligible academic program and meet financial eligibility and academic progress guidelines. Same as above
South Carolina Lottery Tuition
Assistance Program 
(LTAP)
Provides partial tuition to students attending South Carolina Technical Colleges. Federal and State need-based funds must be awarded prior to LTAP funds. South Carolina residents who are enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours) in an eligible academic program. Students must meet academic progress requirements. Not available to S.C. LIFE Scholars. Same as above
Federal Family Educational
Stafford Loans 


(FFEL)
Provides subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Subsidized loans are based on financial need established by the student in an eligible program of study who meets academic progress requirements. Expected family contribution on the FAFSA determines need. No interest is required before repayment begins. Unsubsidized loans are not need-based. Interest accrues from the date the loan is initiated. Eligible students who are enrolled at least half time. Same as above
South Carolina Life Scholarships 

(LIFE)
South Carolina provides students in S. C. Technical Colleges full tuition if they graduate from high school with a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and the student meets college-level course load and academic progress requirements. A maximum of four semesters of LIFE eligibility is allowed for associate degrees and two semesters for one-year diplomas and certificates. SAT scores are not required for technical college students. South Carolina residents graduating from a S. C. high school, approved home school, or a high school outside the state when the student is a S. C. resident’s dependent; be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of college-level courses each semester. Eligibility as a continuing student is dependent on completion of 30 credit hours of college-level course work (or the annual equivalent) and a college GPA of at least 3.0. Apply to the college, be admitted to an eligible program of study and submit a high school transcript showing graduation and a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Scholarships
MTC Foundation Scholarships Scholarships provided through the Midlands Technical College Foundation are awarded on a competitive basis based on financial need, academic excellence, and/or leadership. Other Scholarships Scholarships awarded to students from sources other than those sponsored by the College are based on the criteria established by the sponsor. Requirements vary Apply directly to sponsors. Free scholarship search services are posted on the MTC Student Financial Aid website.
Veterans’ Benefits MTC is approved by the U. S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs to train service people, veterans, dependents and reservists under Title 38, US Code of Federal Regulations, for the following VA benefits: VEAP (Chap. 32; New GI Bill-active duty Edu. Assistance Program (Chap. 30) and selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program (Chap. 1606); Survivors and Dependents (Chap. 35) and Vocational Rehab (Chap. 31) Veterans, widows, spouses or children of deceased veterans and reservists.
