Classroom Contract

I,                                                          , understand that as a college student and an adult, I have certain responsibilities and I am expected to display a certain level of maturity and respect in the classroom.  By signing below, I agree to abide by the following classroom guidelines:

• Cell phones and other electronic devices are not to be seen or used in the classroom
• Participation in the classroom involves listening when it is appropriate to listen and speaking when it is appropriate to speak
• When the instructor is speaking, it is inappropriate for students to speak or have private conversations
• Making comments “under your breath” or to neighbors during instruction is disrespectful and disruptive to the classroom environment
• Appropriate classroom behavior includes sitting up in your seat with your head off of the desk, sitting facing the front of the classroom, making eye contact with the instructor, having only relevant classroom supplies on top of the desk, taking notes when it is appropriate and responding to the instructor when asked a question
• Questions and comments that are relevant to the class discussion are welcomed

If the guidelines listed above are not met, then the instructor will give the student one warning.  After one warning, if disruptive behavior continues, then the student will be asked to leave the classroom and the student will be marked absent for that class period.  If the student refuses to leave the classroom, then campus security will be called to escort the student out of the classroom.

The MTC Student Handbook states “Students should refrain from disruptive activities, included but not limited to …behaving disrespectfully toward the instructor or other students: speaking during instructional activities; and using beepers, cell phones and watch alarms during class…Adherence to all course and departmental requirements is the responsibility of the student. Violation of student conduct requirements could result in disciplinary actions, under the Student Code.”
