1) Test (65%)
Tests will be announced in advance. If you must miss a test for reasons out of your control (illness, death, etc.), you must notify me before the test starts if you want to make it up. Give me a good reason that you could not take the test on time and I will consider letting you make it up.
2) Quizzes (15%)
Often we will have a group or individual quiz on what we covered that day or previous days. Sometimes the quiz will be some of the problems in the homework assigned the previous class. There will be NO make-up on quizzes for any reason. If you miss a quiz, your grade will be 0 for it. I will drop one out of every five quiz grades.
3)Homework
Generally I will not check homework. When I want you to hand in something done outside of class, I will tell you and it will count as a quiz grade. Most of you will not be able to do very well in this class if you do not do your homework. Please plan on doing it or most of it every night.
4) Final (20%)
Any student with a 94% average on Test and Quizzes may exempt the Final. All other
students will have to take the final exam.
1) Cell Phones
If your cell phone rings in class, turn it off quickly and maybe I wont know whose it is. If you answer it, leave! You may return after you have had a session with the vice president for criminal activity. You must bring me a note from her and a copy of your jail sentence before you can return to class. If you ever are caught playing a game on your phone in class, forget about a college education.
Seriously, I will ask you to leave (and be counted absent) if you answer your phone in class, leave class to answer it, or play a game on it, or do anything else with it in class.
2) Disruptive Behavior
If I cannot get a student to cease his disruptive behavior immediately, I will ask him to leave class and he will be counted absent. Repeated episodes will cause the student to be referred to student services for disciplinary action.
3) Calculators
No cell phone calculators! Calculators may not be shared on tests.
Minimum:
· Come to class every day and on time.
· Do some math every night (at least 5 nights a week).
· Do all assigned homework.
For those who want and/or need to do more:
· Read some or all of the examples in the section that will be covered the next day. In addition, working some of the examples is even better.
· Do half (skipping every other assigned one) of the problems the first time they are assigned
and the rest the next night.
KEEP UP WITH YOUR GRADES.
Here is the formula to use to find your average at any time before the final.
Current average = .81(test average) + .19(quiz average)
