COURSE SYLLABUS

MIDLANDS TECHNICAL COLLEGE

MAT 100VIDEO INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGE MATH 5.0 Credit Hours

Please note that I will be making significant changes to the testing procedures due to gas prices, and new accreditation guide lines. We will also be using the fourth edition of the same book. You can still use the third edition and I will provide you with the conversion differences. I am planning to have all your tests available on-line except the final exam in MyMathLab to keep you from having to drive to the Testing Center.

Sorry if this adversely affects anyone but I think it is best for the majority.

Please email me you comments if you disagree.

The video tapes for this course are optional and limited and will be made available for check out at the Airport or Beltline Campus library or viewing in the Airport or Beltline Campus Academic Success Centers on a first come first serve basis. MyMathLab is an optional and not required online extension of this course where you can find extra practice problems, multimedia instruction, and free math tutoring at The Tutor Center. You will need  to register in MyMathLab/CourseCompass to be able to use the online functions. The web address is www.coursecompass.com and the Course I.D. is: hames30530. This is not a WebCT course therefore you do not need a WebCT account for this course.

TESTING: Mat 100V01/02 is a self-paced course. Students are not required to turn in homework but should at least work the odd problems at the end of each exercise and take the practice test at the end of each chapter. Tests will cover the assigned sections and recommended homework problems and you will be expected to apply prior knowledge of topics covered.. You are expected to learn and apply information covered in all your assignments. All tests should be taken at the Airport Campus Testing Center (ASC262) in accordance with their testing schedule and on or before the test completion dates. If you cannot meet a test deadline you are required to notify me by email why the deadline was missed and when you will take the test. I will not return any calls or emails requesting a test schedule change confirmation. All tests will be multiple choice and calculators can be used on all tests after chapter 2. No books or notes will be allowed.  You are not to copy any test questions, and all scratch paper shall be included in the envelope with your tests. You should not discuss the tests with your classmates. You can complete the course at any time all tests are taken. Test grades will be emailed as soon as possible after each testing deadline. There will be no retaking of a test and no extra credit offered.

TESTING LOCATION: Airport Campus Student Center     Room ASC-262
