Orientation Information:
There is no on-campus orientation for this course but there is a course contract you need to complete and submit starting 8/17/2009 and ending 8/27/2009.
This class uses computer programs, the Internet, and DVTs to deliver content such as video lectures and printed solution manuals, present exercise problems for student interaction, and keep a record of student progress. Students working homework problems online will receive immediate feedback on their work. The tutorial assistance includes step-by-step instruction, a sample problem, printed text, and a video clip. If you were taking this class in the traditional face-to-face format, your class would meet in a lecture room for five hours per week, and each student spends about ten hours per week outside of class on homework assignments. Online students should be prepared to spend 15 to 20 hours per week on this course since it may be necessary to account for communication delays and hardware problems in addition to the equivalent class time. Remember: This course may require more time than a traditional face-to-face class. Taking a Distance Learning course requires both self discipline and time management skills. Your course is set up with a completion schedule. It is imperative that you adhere to the schedule in order to maintain a steady pace and to complete the course successfully.
Textbook:
Integrated Arithmetic and Basic Algebra, Fourth Edition
by Jordan/Palow, Addision Wesley, 2009.
If you have a good, fast internet connection and you are computer savvy you may want to
just purchase the MyMathLab software because you book, student solution manual, etc.
is will then be available when the software is activated. It can be purchased seperately in the
bookstore or online. (www.coursecompass.com)
Testing:
All tests must be completed by the testing dates. There are no make-up tests. There are NO excuses. All chapter tests and homework are online. All test questions are similar to the homework exercises. The chapter tests and homework do not have to be taken on campus. You may take them from your home, work, or anywhere else. The midterm and final exam will be taken in the classroom. The final exam is mandatory therefore you will receive an F in the course if the exam is not taken. There are no exceptions.
Accessing this Course:
You will need the student code in the MML part of your book package and a course id from me. You may have the course id after you have emailed me a copy of the course contract. Your course will not be available online until the first day of classes 8/24/2009. Follow the instructions found with the MML code to log on.
I am requiring you to use MyMathLab for the Hybrid Course.
