FAST TRACK

 Fast Track is a short, fast-paced program that offers an intensive refresher course to help students develop the basic skills necessary to be successful on a college level.  This program is designed for students who have placement scores that require them to take ENG 100, MAT 100, and RDG 100, but whose scores are at the top end of that assessment and placement scale.  All Fast Track classes end prior to the beginning of the 10-week and 7-week semesters. 

Who Should Take the Fast Track courses?

• Instead of taking ENG 100 (3 hours), MAT 100 (5 hours), or RDG 100 (3 hours) during a 14-week, 10-week, or 7-week session, Fast Track allows students to take an 1 credit hour exemption course in a short 3-4 week session: ENG 010, MAT 010, RDG 010. 
• Successful completion of the Fast Track courses allows students to take the next course in the sequence: ENG 101, MAT 101, or college-level courses in a major or for transfer in the next semester course offerings. 
• Students who are receiving a Life Scholarship are required to complete 30 credit hours of college-level courses to maintain the scholarship, and ENG 100, MAT 100, and RDG 100 do not count toward the 30-hour requirement. Therefore, Fast Track classes allow these students to complete the required placement courses in time to move into college-level courses and give students adequate time in the academic year to complete the required hours for the scholarship.

Qualifications:

The Fast Track program is offered exclusively to students who qualify according to their scores on the Midlands Technical College assessment and placement tests, Compass and Asset, which students take while in high school or when applying to MTC.  To qualify for Fast Track courses, students must have the following test scores:

• For RDG 010, a student must have a reading score of 75-79 on Compass or 38-39 on Asset.
• For ENG 010, a student must have a reading score of 75-79 on Compass or 38-39 on Asset, combined with a Writing Sample of 2 or 20.  All students who earn a 2 or 20 are required to take ENG 100.  So, it is the RDG score that really qualifies a student for Fast Track ENG 010.
• For MAT 010, a student must have a reading score of 75-79 on Compass or 38-39 on Asset, combined with a score of 39-43 on Compass Pre-Algebra or 34-35 on Asset Elem. Algebra.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance in Fast Track is vital to success; the class meets no more than 8 times, and each meeting covers material that takes weeks in a regular semester.  Students must attend the first day of class; thereafter, they are allowed 1 absence, and must make up the time for this absence; the instructor will explain the options for making up the class time as well as completing all of the required assignments.  If students cannot make the commitment to attend every day of Fast Track, then this program will not work for them, and instead they should take the 100 courses in a longer format.
