Is there a waiting list for the dental hygiene
program? Yes. After being interviewed and
accepted, a student may have to wait several years before
beginning Phase
II of the Dental Hygiene Program. As of the spring
of 2006, the approximate
wait time was 5 years. Students who qualify
for the Merit
Admissions Opportunity may have a considerably shorter
wait time.

What will I do while waiting to go into Phase
II? Some students opt to complete the Expanded
Duty Dental Assisting program.
Other students choose to work and save money so that they do not need to
work while completing the clinical phase

Is there a waiting list for the Expanded Duty
Dental Assisting Program? Most students
who are interviewed and accepted into the EDDA program
can begin taking Dental Assisting classes during the
Fall semester. Occasionally, the number of qualified
students exceeds the number of spaces available. When
this happens, some students will begin the program during
the following Fall semester. As of the spring
of 2006, the approximate
wait time is 1 year.

How do I get an interview for the Dental Hygiene
(or Dental Assisting) Program? Make sure you
have officially declared Dental Hygiene (or Dental Assisting)
as your intended major. The admissions office
will automatically track your progress, then notify
Allied Dental Education Programs (ADEP) and you when you become eligible for an interview.
ADEP will then contact you with information about
your interview. If you are not sure about your
status, ask a dental programs advisor during your next academic
advisement appointment.

How do I get an appointment in the Dental Clinic? Call the dental clinic receptionist at
(803) 822-3450. If no appointments are available,
ask about being seen as a walk-in.

Can I get emergency dental treatment in the clinic? Person seeking emergency care such
as extractions should see a dentist. This type
of procedure is not offered in our Dental Clinic.

How much do you charge for services in the Dental
Clinic? Charges vary depending on the services
performed. Visit the "Clinic" page,
or call the receptionist for specific pricing.

Is it possible to complete the Dental Hygiene (DHG) or
Expanded Duty Dental Assisting (EDDA) program online? No.
While students may complete some of their pre-requisite courses online, EDDA and DHG courses must be
taken in person.

Is it possible to complete the Dental Hygiene (DHG) or
Expanded Duty Dental Assisting (EDDA) program at night,
or as a part-time student? In general, no.
Students accepted into the program(s) attend classes as a group (cohort).
Evening courses are not available. For some
students who have completed the EDDA program prior to entering the DHG program,
the first two semesters can be part-time through exemptions and challenges of
DHG courses.
