Notetaking Tips

“I have an instructor who talks really fast. I can’t keep up. What should I do?”
  • Remember you will write down about 1 out of every 8 words spoken. Take notes on key words, phrases and important ideas. ¨Ask questions- it will slow the instructor down.
  • Ask your instructor to repeat an idea if you missed it.
  • Prepare for the class so you are familiar with the material- read the next chapter BEFORE class.
  • Exchange and compare notes with a classmate.
  • Use a tape recorder.
  • Take notes in an outline format- leave space for additional information or questions.
