Company or Agency employed by:  Cullom's Auto, Inc.

Current position:
Automotive Technician

Educational Preparation:   Associate in Automotive Technology - Midlands Technical College

What are the typical duties of someone in your position? My duties consist of complete auto repairs including all systems, powertrain, electrical, and chassis.

How did Midlands Technical College help prepare you for your career field?  Midlands Tech. gave me an understanding of how all components and systems on an automobile work.  This knowledge is essential for an automobile technician to accurately diagnose and repair today's automobiles.

What things do you find rewarding about your profession? I personally find my profession rewarding because of it's constant mental challenge.  Each vehicle presents a new problem that I have to use my experience and knowledge to correctly diagnose and repair.

Are there aspects of your profession that you find stressful? Every automotive technician eventually comes across a vehicle with which the diagnostic process becomes very stressful.  However, the stress makes finding the problem much more rewarding.

What do you see as the most important personal qualities someone considering going into your profession should have?   Self respect as well as respect for others and their professions.  These qualities will give you the respect and trust of your employer as well as your customers.

What advice do you have for students at Midlands Technical College who might be interested in entering your profession? My advice to upcoming technicians is to consider what type of profession that would interest them.  If you are interested in a career that tests your ability to problem solve, communicate with others, and constantly learn in order to stay abreast of the latest technology, then the Automotive Industry is the career for you.

Is there any other information you would like to share with students? If you take pride in your work, others will notice.
