Midlands Technical College, in cooperation with participating high schools, makes certain college courses available to high school students during the regular school day at their high school. Both the curriculum and the teachers are approved by Midlands Technical College. Students earn dual credit for courses—credit at Midlands Technical College and credit towards high school graduation. Credits can also later be transferred to most two or four-year public colleges in South Carolina and are accepted by most colleges nationwide.
The courses are selected by Midlands Technical College and the participating high school, so the offering varies from school to school. Contact your high school guidance counselor for the schedule of courses offered at your school, or to suggest a particular course. Midlands Technical College offers a varied curriculum, including arts and sciences, business and information systems technology, industrial and engineering technologies and engineering transfer, and nursing and health sciences.
Students must enroll at Midlands Technical College by completing the standard admissions requirements:
In addition, high school juniors and seniors should talk with their guidance counselor about the policies at their high school for participating in College in High School.
You are graded on your performance on college-level assignments and exams using the criteria established by the Midlands Technical College department offering the course. Grades are determined by the course instructor, and submitted to Midlands Technical College as a part of your permanent college transcript.
One of the advantages of the College in High School program is that you can obtain college credit at a substantially lower cost than the typical college tuition rate. Check with your school's guidance counselor for information about costs.
There is no fee for enrolling in Midlands Technical College and no fee to take the ASSET test.
