General Radiography Certificate program is designed to meet the needs of the Radiation and Safety Act which requires one year of radiologic education. Graduates are prepared to work in mainly Doctor’s offices and can perform radiographic procedures of the chest, abdomen, upper-lower extremities, spine and skull. Class and clinical rotations will involve approximately 40 hours per week Monday-Friday. Classes in anatomy, radiographic exposure, radiation safety, patient care and radiologic physics will prepare the graduates for state certification upon passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Limited General Radiography exam. The program is approved by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association.
Students are required to purchase and maintain a set of standard white uniforms, laboratory coats, white shoes and a name pin (approximate cost of $200), radiography books and manuals (approximate cost of $250) and membership fees in professional organizations (approximate cost of $20).
In addition to the college’s placement test and the admissions requirements of the Health Sciences Department, specific admission criteria to the General Radiography program are:
Acceptable admission criteria:
HOBET 60 composite percent (minimum reading 50 percent) and MTC writing sample score of 30; or
SAT 910 (minimum verbal 430) and MTC writing sample score of 30; or
ACT 19 (minimum verbal 18) and MTC writing sample score of 30; or
Successful completion of the Pre-Health Care certificate with a 2.5 GPA and “C” or higher in each course.
High school diploma or equivalent
High school or college credits in mathematics/science (recommended)

Clinical observations
Certification in basic first-aid and CPR
Formal interview following an information session
Students awaiting entry are encouraged to enroll in the Health Sciences and Nursing Preparation Certificate program or take AHS 102 and BIO 112.
Students must earn a grade of “C” or higher in all science and technology courses. No course may be repeated.
NOTE: This is a specialized certificate for limited radiography practice. It does not allow for direct transfer into the associate degree Radiologic Technology program. Completion of this certificate and completion of the AOT (Associates in Occupational Technology degree) could lead to applicant eligibility for Sonography and Nuclear Medicine programs.
