The Court Reporting Certificate is designed to prepare students for jobs in county and state courts, with government agencies or with private firms. Students may enter the program only after completion of the Computer-Aided Transcription certificate.
The Court Reporting Certificate program is approved by the National Court Reporters Association. The Association sets requirements for graduation as follows:
Shorthand speed - a minimum of three five-minute tests
with 95% accuracy on:
225 WPM Q&A (two voice)
200 WPM Jury Charge
180 WPM Literary
Internship - a minimum of 40 hours of actual writing time under the supervision of a practicing realtime reporter using machine shorthand technology. This must verified in writing by the reporter(s) under whom the internship is being completed. A transcript shall be produced (40 pages) for course evaluation taken from the freelance, the official, or the realtime reporting internship.
Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all of the courses offered within the Business and Information Systems Technology departments for the grade to be counted toward graduation. Specifically, these include courses with the following prefixes: ACC, BAF, BUS, CPT, CRP, EGR, HUS, IST, LEG, MGT, MKT and OST.
