The Student Financial Services Office staff at Midlands Technical College is committed to providing quality service to students, the college and the community. Staff members are dedicated to assisting students with their financial needs and serving the community in which the college is located.
To receive Federal Title IV assistance and State assistance, an applicant must:
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), using MTC code 003993.
Demonstrate financial need (except for certain loan and scholarship programs).
Have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, or have passed the COMPASS or ASSET tests, which are administered by Midlands Technical College. Contact the Assessment Office for details.
Be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible program of study.
Be a US citizen or an eligible noncitizen.
Have a valid Social Security Number.
Make satisfactory academic progress, according to Student Financial Services Office standards.
NOTE: Applicants should save all records and other materials used in applying for aid including income tax documentations. These documents may be needed later if the applicant is selected for a process called "verification."
All applicants for Federal and State aid, SC Lottery Tuition Assistance, loans and need-based scholarships must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year. Specific information is available at www.FAFSA.ed.gov and on the Student Financial Services Web site at www.midlandstech.edu/SFS. The FAFSA may be filed electronically or by mail.
No financial aid award can be made until the college's financial aid application process is completed. A complete application is defined as one that has been received, reviewed, found free from errors and does not require additional information for verification.
Once the file is complete, the applicant will be notified by mail regarding the financial aid award status. The award notification will list the type(s) and amount(s) of assistance the student will receive. Students receiving state aid must sign a certification/affidavit form and return it to the Student Financial Services Office prior to disbursement.
All financial aid awards are subject to change if the information upon which they were based changes or federal regulations require a change.
Awards will be based on the cost to attend MTC and the results of the FAFSA. The average total cost for an in-county resident living off-campus and attending full-time fall and spring was $12,196 for 2003-2004. That cost included tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, board, transportation and personal expenses. Individual student costs depend on factors such as residency, enrollment status, housing arrangements and program of study. Included with the award notification will be information regarding the terms and conditions of the award.
Deadlines: To receive priority and maximum consideration for all forms of aid, applicants must complete the application process by April 15th (prior to the start of the fall term of the award year).
Aid listed on the award letter, with certain exceptions including Federal Work Study will be credited to the student's account. If a credit balance occurs after applying tuition, fees, and any other authorized charges, the Finance Office will issue a check by mail after the credit occurs. The check will be mailed to the student's local address. It is the student's responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the mailing address in the Records Office.
