Student Services and Activities

Center for Adult Learners

The Center for Adult Learners offers both financial assistance and services to participants through CAREERS.  CAREERS is an acronym for College Activities Reap Educational Experiences Resulting in Success.  These services are for men and women in career transition, for both males and females pursuing nontraditional careers, and also for economically disadvantaged single parents and displaced homemakers.

Special college orientation sessions, mentoring assignments, job shadowing activities, industry and company tours and workshops assist adults in managing the multiple roles of student, family member and worker.  CAREERS provides assistance with tuition, books, tools and child care for students eligible under special Perkins III grant funding.  In order to receive this financial assistance, students must:

  1. reside in Richland, Lexington or Fairfield counties;

  2. meet the college's admission requirements;

  3. have and/or maintain a 2.5 GPA;

  4. be willing to attend program activities that include workshops, career mentoring,  job shadowing and industry/company tours.

  5. attend an individual or group counseling session.

The Center for Adult Learners administers the Beatrice Lindau Scholarship Fund for students who need emergency educational expenses.

The Center for Adult Learners also provides information regarding job training opportunities in the Central Midlands.
