Alumni Association

The Midlands Technical College Alumni Association is a dues-based membership organization open to all who have attended Midlands Technical College. Through the Alumni Association, members have the opportunity to keep in touch with the college and fellow graduates, establish networks, and assist the college in remaining on the cutting edge of excellence. Through its membership dues and periodic fund-raisers, the Alumni Association strives to support student scholarships, curriculum development, reunions and other special events.

Specific details on current Alumni Association activities and membership are available through the college's Development Office.

All student organizations are governed under the umbrella of the Student Advisory Board, which serves as the student governance board for the college. Students may charter new organizations through the Student Advisory Board.

The college also has an intramural basketball team, the Midlands Technical College Mustangs.

Publications offered through the Student Activities Office include a Student Activities Calendar listing scheduled events, the MTC Student Handbook, the Childcare Referral Manual, the Clubs Manual, and The Pony Express, a bi-monthly student newspaper.

Cultural and Cocurricular Programming

A major goal of the Student Activities Office is to enhance the overall development of students at the college and provide an opportunity for meaningful learning and appreciation of important aspects of our cultural and intellectual heritage. Debates, seminars, workshops and quality speakers are offered as well as performances by local artists, videos and special interest programs.

Identification Cards

The Student Activities Office will process student ID cards on a walk-in basis during Schedule Change days. Walk-in processing hours will follow the same hours as Schedule Change. IDs are not processed during late registration. Refer to the Student Activities Calendar for specific dates and times.

The initial card is issued to students free of charge. A fee-paid receipt for tuition, some other form of picture ID, and vehicle make and tag information must be presented for IDs to be issued. A fee of $5 is charged for replacement IDs, which also requires presentation of a current fee receipt to verify enrollment.

Social and Sports Activities

The Student Activities Office seeks to foster interaction among the entire student body, faculty and staff by offering social and recreational activities. This interaction can improve students' concepts of self-worth and increase the opportunities for success in college. Recreational activities are sponsored in conjunction with local county recreation commissions. Information concerning the schedules of games and other special events is available in the Student Activities Office.

Student Advisory Board

The Student Advisory Board (SAB) is the student governance structure at Midlands Technical College. The Student Advisory Board offers students the opportunity to experience self-government and the function of democratic representation in college affairs. Through the SAB, students are represented in meetings with the college President, the Vice President for Student Development Services, the Vice President for Education, the Vice President for Business Affairs, the Vice President for Advancement and the Midlands Technical College Commission's Student and College Relations Committee. The SAB appoints students to standing college committees such as the Honors Committee, the Registration Committee, the Graduation Committee, the Library Committee and the Technology Committee. Student representatives serve on college ad-hoc committees such as Student Grievances, Academic Appeals and Student Appeals. The SAB also sponsors various activities, including community service projects.

All Midlands Technical College students are automatically members-at-large of the SAB and are encouraged to participate. The executive officers are elected in the spring. Anyone interested in learning more about the Student Advisory Board should contact the Student Activities Office on either the Beltline or Airport campuses.
