With careful planning, the two-year Associate in Arts or
Associate in Science degree can enable a student to enter four-year colleges or
universities as a junior prepared to complete work toward a bachelor’s degree in
a number of different majors. The Statewide Articulation Agreement of 86 courses
already approved by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education for
transfer from two-to four-year public institutions is applicable to all public
institutions in the state. Additional information can be found on the website of
the Commission on Higher Education at www.che400.state.sc.us via the Academic
Policies link. Midlands Technical College works with other institutions of
higher education to facilitate students’ transfer both into and from the
college. Since transfer of credit is always the decision of the receiving
institution, students planning to transfer to another college should contact
that college for information regarding transferability of courses.
The following is only a partial list of senior institutions
that accept credit from Midlands Technical College:
Appalachian State University
Benedict College
Clemson University
College of Charleston
Colorado State University
Columbia College
Francis Marion University
Furman University
Newberry College
North Carolina State University
Pennsylvania State University
South Carolina State University
University of Georgia
University of Maryland
University of North Carolina at Charlotte
University of South Carolina
Winthrop University
While it is the responsibility of each student to plan a
program of study to meet the requirements of the college to which the student
expects to transfer, informed academic advisors are available to assist students
in their course selections.
Entrance requirements for transfer students vary widely among senior colleges and universities. Transfer of credits is a privilege granted by the institution to which the student transfers, and all applicants and requests for transfer of credit are considered individually. Students must complete their courses at Midlands Technical College with grades acceptable to the college from which they request admission and transfer of credit. It is strongly recommended that early in a student’s academic career at Midlands Technical College he or she discuss transferring to a four-year institution with the appropriate representatives of that institution.
