SERVICES FOR ADULTS
Midlands Technical College offers support services for students who are planning to enter or re-enter the work force after being out of school for an extended period. Designed to aid adults’ transition to the college environment, these services provide assistance targeting the needs of the economically disadvantaged, displaced workers, homemakers transitioning to a career, single parents and those interested in pursuing a nontraditional career.
MTC’s Counseling Services staff are available to assist enrolled or potential students, as well as returning alumni. Counselors focus on helping you define and achieve your goals by providing personal counseling, academic counseling, career counseling and more. Counseling Services adheres to strict standards of confidentiality.
MTC works to make sure its programs, services and activities are accessible to all students, in accordance with the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans With Disabilities Act. Disability Services are located on both the Airport and Beltline campuses and a variety of assistive technology resources are available for students. The Airport office is located in Room 237 of the Student Center; the Beltline office is located in Room 229 of the Student Center.
The Student Financial Services Office at Midlands Technical College is dedicated to assisting students with their financial needs. A wide variety of tuition assistance programs are available at the college, including Pell Grants, State Need-Based Grants, SC LIFE Scholarships, Lottery Tuition Assistance Grants, SEOG, Stafford Loans, MTC Foundation scholarships and Federal Work Study.
Midlands Technical College not only prepares you for a career, MTC provides support to help you land a position that utilizes your skills. As you near completion of your academic program, our Job Placement Office can help you locate employment opportunities and resources, critique your resumé, prepare for the interview and market yourself. ACADEMIC SUCCESS CENTERS
Located in Beltline’s Wade Martin Hall and the Airport’s Academic Center, the Academic Success Centers facilitate your success. Need extra help in your academic program of study? Or do you need access to computer software, the Internet or other educational tools? The Academic Success Centers provide these services to MTC students at no charge.
MTC works to augment students’ academic experience through a variety of co-curricular activities and programs. Student Life brings to campus a well-rounded schedule of college-sponsored lectures, seminars and workshops, as well as performances by local artists, mini-concerts, films and special programs. Student Life also publishes the online Pony Express, and gives students a voice in college governance through the Student Advisory Board.
To help students achieve academic success, MTC offers four programs funded through the U.S. Department of Education: Educational Opportunity Center, Educational Talent Search, Student Support Services and Upward Bound. Students interested in applying to participate in TRIO programs must meet federal educational or income level guidelines or be an individual diagnosed with a disability.
Midlands Technical College is approved for veterans’ educational benefits and is staffed to assist veterans in the processing phase. All programs listed in the MTC Academic Catalog are VA approved with the exception of carpentry. Our VA Offices are located on Beltline Campus, Student Center, Room 131 and on the Airport Campus, Student Center, Room 259.
The Midlands Technical College bookstores offer new and used textbooks, reference books and school supplies, including required drafting, graphics, computer, dental and nursing supplies. Bookstores are located on the first floor of the student centers on the Airport and Beltline Campuses.
Whether students have an assignment, research paper or just need the answer to a question, the MTC Library is here to help. The librarians can help students access a broad range of resources including the book and periodical collections, the online catalogue, the Internet, and periodical and reference databases including Lexis-Nexis and InfoTrac.
