About the Career Computer Systems Technicians primarily perform hands-on repair, maintenance and installation of personal computers, computer systems, software, printers, cables and related equipment. Opportunities in these areas tend to be excellent as employers often report difficulty finding qualified applicants. With experience, computer systems technicians can advance to positions maintaining more sophisticated networking equipment, servers and more sophisticated peripherals. Experienced workers may become specialists who help in the diagnosis of difficult systems problems or work with engineers designing equipment and maintenance procedures. Skilled technicians may also move into sales and customer service positions as well as management and supervisory positions.
About the Program These certificates provide basic and advanced theory and laboratory practice required to provide the successful graduate with the necessary skills for entry- level positions in companies such cabling and computer service technicians. Students will learn to service, maintain, upgrade and optimize the performance of personal computers and do basic networking and systems interconnections.
The Basic Computer Maintenance Certificate qualifies the graduate to maintain and install personal computers and local area networks. The essential knowledge needed to pass the A+ Certification Exam is presented in this program.
The Telecommunications Infrastructure Certificate prepares the graduate for basic installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment and systems. These skills include cabling, wiring, fiber optics, peripherals, troubleshooting and networking skills.
The Advanced Computer Systems Certificate combines the practical, hands-on skills of the basic certificates with the theory necessary to design, repair, and maintain, computers, networks, and other related electronic systems and controls. An A+ Certification or completion of the computer Maintenance Certificate is a prerequisite to this certificate.
