Course Description:
ACC 201 Intermediate Accounting I :   

This course explores fundamental processes of accounting theory including the preparation of financial statements.  Also covered are the time value of money, cash and receivables, and the valuation of inventories.  Professional ethics and generally accepted accounting principles are introduced.  (Prerequisite:  ACC 101 or ACC 112)

Chapters Covered:
This course covers the first seven chapters (1-8) in the textbook. Topics include:
Environment and Theoretical Structure of Financial Accounting, Review of the Accounting Process, The Balance Sheet and Financial Statement Disclosure, The income Statement and Statement of Cash flows, Income Measurement and Profitability Analysis, Time Value of Money and Cash and Receivables and Inventory. 

Course Outcomes and Competencies:
As part of the Business department’s commitment to teaching effectiveness and ongoing student learning outcomes assessments activities the following outcomes and competencies have been developed for ACC 201:

Intended Course Outcome #1: Students will demonstrate overall knowledge of the learning objectives for Intermediate accounting including the financial transactions and financial statements, and understanding of the accounting concepts involving certain current assets.

Course Competency (Performance Measure): Students will demonstrate understanding of financial transactions for a corporation and the impact the transaction have the financial statements, as well as an understanding of the accounting concepts involving cash, receivables and time value of money.

Measurement Instrument and Success Criteria: All students will complete a mandatory practice set that based on the learning objectives for the course. The goal is that 80% of the students will score 70% or higher on the project.

 

Publisher's website: The authors have developed a comprehensive resource site for site. It is organized by chapters and contains on-line quizzing, e-lectures, PowerPoint presentations, articles, practice exams etc. Check it out at student website .
