Course Description:  MGT 201

This course is a study of personnel administration functions within a business organization.  Major areas of study include job analysis; recruitment, selection, and assessment of personnel; and wage, salary and benefit administration.

Textbook: Human Resource Management, 9th ed., Byars and Rue, McGraw-Hill

Course Outcomes and Competencies:
As part of the Business department’s ongoing student learning outcomes assessments activities the following outcomes and competencies have been developed for MGT 201:

Intended Course Outcome #1: Students will demonstrate knowledge of the functions for human resource management

Course Competency: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the process of acquiring, training, appraising, and compensating employees during a departmental examination.

Measurement Instrument: An examination developed by the management faculty that is based on the functions of human resource management will be administered each semester.

Intended Course Outcome #2: Students will demonstrate an overall knowledge of employment law.

Course Competency: Students will demonstrate the ability to cite employment discrimination laws and discriminatory personnel management practices, and define adverse impact and explain how it is proved, through a writing project.

Measurement Instrument: An examination developed by the management faculty that is based on employment laws will be administered each semester.
