If you are a new student with no previous college credit, and you have met all admissions requirements, you are ready to meet your advisor. Because we want your advisement session to be as successful as possible from the first moment you arrive on campus, you will need to follow some important first steps.
Step one Call to schedule an appointment.
If you are planning to major in the following programs:
College Transfer, Business and Public Service, Information Technology, Health Sciences or Nursing, Contact the Advisement Center by calling Airport Campus at 822-3388, or the Beltline Campus at 738-7810.
If you are planning to major in Engineering Technology or Industrial Technology,
you will schedule an appointment with an advisor in your program department. See the Registration Guide in your admittance packet or go to www.midlandstech.edu/advisement for the contact number.
Ask for directions if you need to.
The Advisement Center is located in the Student Center on Airport Campus, Room 215, and in the Student Center on Beltline Campus, Room 239
Then,You will want to get the most out of your advisement session, so you need to be ON TIME for your appointment. In fact, it is best if you arrive 15 minutes early. Consider traffic and parking issues that could cause delays.
You don’t want to miss your appointment! It may be difficult to reschedule during the busy advisement period. However, if you must reschedule, call the contact person who made your appointment as soon as possible.
Your advisement session will be more successful if you take the time to prepare before your appointment.
Make sure you are familiar with the requirements of your chosen program by reviewing the college catalog or visiting www. midlandstech.edu/advisement. Catalogs are available at the Information Center.
Now, Let’s talk about what you should expect during your advisement session:
You will meet with an experienced and knowledgeable New Student Advisor. You will talk to your advisor about your educational and career goals. Then, you will discuss program requirements for your major.
During your advisement meeting, your advisor will explain your placement test scores. Your advisor will ensure that you are placed in the proper courses for your first semester based on your skill sets.
As a resource person, your advisor will also review the many services that are available to you at the college.
You and your advisor will also talk about academic and graduation requirements, as well as transfer plans. If you are a transfer student, your advisor can answer general questions about transferring, but keep in mind, you are responsible for understanding and meeting the requirements of the college you want to transfer to.
Your advisor will also familiarize you with the campus and answer any questions to make your first days as smooth as possible.
Last, you will schedule and register for your classes. Your advisor will tell you if you can register on-line or if you should go to Records.
