DESCRIPTION:
A program designed to prepare medical assisting personnel, under the supervision of a physician, to perform a wide range of clinical and administrative duties in physician's offices, clinics, emergency medical centers, etc.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum of 40 semester hours and application for graduation is required to receive certification.
• A minimum grade of "C" must be maintained in all medical assisting courses.
• Students may repeat no more than two technology courses.

PROGRAM NOTES:

1. A pre-admission interview is required prior to acceptance.
2. Negative criminal background check and drug screening prior to acceptance
3. A physical examination is required (form to be completed after interview).
4. A current First Aid and CPR certificate must be presented upon entry.
5. MED courses must be taken in the sequence as outlined in the Medical Assisting student handbook.

7. The Recommended Courses or Alternates listed below are for students wishing to remain in school, who have completed their general education requirements but have not been admitted to the program.
8. Students who are admitted to the Medical Assisting program are required to purchase and maintain standard white laboratory coats at an approximate cost of $25.
9. The Medial Assisting program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs  and graduates are eligible to take the American Association of Medical Assistants'  Certification Examination. Upon successfully completion of the examination, graduates receive the CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) credential. Graduates are also eligible to take the American Medical Technologies Registration Examination. Upon successful completion, graduates receive the RMA (AMT) credential.
