DESCRIPTION:
A program designed to prepare dental hygienists to provide preventive and therapeutic oral hygiene health measures in dental offices, clinics and educational or health care institutions.

BEGINNING SEMESTER: Fall

CAMPUS:Airport

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • Completion of the Pre-Dental Hygiene Certificate with at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • Emotional and physical ability to carry out normal activities of dental hygiene as determined by physical examination by physician and the completion of a personal health history.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Pre-clinical practice is performed on classmate clients. Students accepted into Phase II of the Dental Hygiene program will be expected to act as clients for classmates to practice all new skills, including infiltration anesthesia injections. Students who require antibiotics prior to dental procedures will be expected to comply with such self-medication so as to allow equitable classmate learning experiences during pre-clinical sessions. Students anticipating orthodontic procedures should complete their banding phase prior to entry into Phase II or they should delay initiation of the orthodontic procedures until the second year of Phase II.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 84 semester credit hours is required for graduation (36 hours, Pre-Dental Hygiene). A minimum grade of "C" must be attained in all dental hygiene and natural science courses. Students may not repeat a major course more than once, nor may they progress until that course has been passed. Additionally, no more than two different courses may be repeated.
