My name is Morgan. I am a 27-year-old single mother of three beautiful children. I have been a student at MTC since 2005, although I took a year off to have my youngest daughter. I am working toward my AS and have just started my second semester in the Medical Laboratory Technician program. I had tried college before, and had serious difficulty finding my place, so to speak. I needed time to explore the world, so I dropped out, got married, had two children, got divorced, joined the Army, and was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder. By the time I had an opportunity to slow down and decide what, exactly, I wanted to make out of the rest of my life, I realized that I had absolutely no idea what I was seeking, and I had no faith in my ability to accomplish anything. I took the Continuing Ed phlebotomy program at MTC, and graduated with a perfect average! I was so proud of myself, and decided to enroll in a full semester of courses. I ended with a 4.0 that semester, and enrolled in the next semester. Two years later, I still have my 4.0 average, but that is only the beginning of what MTC has given me. I have faith in my ability to accomplish anything. When I look back at the skittish, slightly neurotic person I was then, and compare her to the woman I am now, I realize that there is no comparison: I am on five executive committees at my synagogue, the chair of one, and the co-chair of another, a member of the Ambassador Assembly, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the MLT representative to the Student Advisory Board, a full-time student, a part-time employee, and a mother who feels remarkably satisfied with the relationship I’ve been able to maintain with my children. I am astounded at all I have accomplished, and I have never forgotten that it all began here, at Midlands Technical College.
