Why I thought a college education was necessary In May of 2005 something happened in my life that caused me to realize that I had to go back to school so that I could provide a better future for both myself and my daughter. Growing up my father always taught me that getting a good education was very important because you never know when you may have to support yourself and maybe even someone else. Like most teenagers, I listened, but most of what he had said went in one ear and out the other. However, last year his words came flowing back to me. I found myself on my own, with a child and in need of a new future. Sometimes our parents can seem to be so much wiser as we grow older. So, with the help and urging of a great network of supporters I applied to MTC in June and began school the following semester. Now more than ever getting a college education is very important. In the past it was a lot easier to find a job with little to no post high school education. I may be exaggerating a little, but it sometimes seems that nowadays you need a college degree to work in the local fast food joint. We live in a high-tech and fast-paced time, and in order to compete in the present job market you have to have at least an Associate degree. Having a college education is the only way to ensure yourself of a brighter future. As I said before, I am currently in my third semester at MTC, and I can already see the difference having a college education can make. By merely attending college, you show prospective employers that you are dedicated and focused on your career. There is no downfall or drawback to attending college. There are only positives. |
