South Carolina Academy of Science

My public speaking professor asked me to participate in a speech competition for the South Carolina Academy of Science meeting. The broad topic was scientific literacy. I said no at first. With tests and papers and exams still to come, I didn’t think I’d be able to juggle it all. My professor was insistent though. She called my advisor at SSS to ask her to encourage me to participate. I decided to do it. I chose public awareness of alternative fuel research as a topic. I won first place. My teacher told me Woody Allen once said that 90% of getting the job is showing up for the interview. I’m glad I took on the challenge. I won $100!!
